The village of Muñó, in Asturias (Spain), is a place with deep roots, strong traditions and a remarkable history of community spirit. More than a century ago, one of our ancestors, Mr. Cesáreo Vigil, born in Muñó in 1851, generously funded the construction of a magnificent school building that opened its doors in 1906. This act of philanthropy transformed the village, giving generations of children access to education and opportunity.

Today, this historic building—Les Escueles de Muñó—remains a symbol of that legacy. It is currently used by ASECEVI, an association dedicated to preserving the cultural, historical, and educational heritage of Muñó. Its mission includes:

• Honoring and promoting the legacy of Mr. Cesáreo Vigil Cortina and recognizing his extraordinary philanthropic contribution to the community.

• Highlighting the historical importance of the Muñó school building, celebrated as the first school building of its kind in the area.

• Ensuring the ongoing preservation and maintenance of this historic landmark, promoting the improvements needed so it can continue serving its community for years to come.

• Sharing and celebrating local traditions, rural customs and the stories of the people who lived—and still live—on this land, through exhibitions, talks, workshops and community events.

This building is more than stone and wood—it is a living piece of Muñó’s identity. But like all historic places, it needs care, restoration and support to remain active and meaningful.
